WHO WE ARE

InterState Medical Centers
in Oregon

The Health of Our Patients is Our #1 Priority.

InterState Medical Group – Disc Centers of Salem was built around a simple belief: healthcare should help people understand what is wrong, improve how their body functions, and give them a clear path forward.

We are a multidisciplinary, drug-free, conservative, non-surgical musculoskeletal clinic in Salem, Oregon, focused on conditions involving the spine, discs, joints, muscles, and nerves. But what defines us is not simply the number of services we provide. It is how we approach the person in front of us.

We listen first.

We want to understand what happened, what hurts, what is no longer moving or functioning the way it should, and—just as importantly—what the problem is keeping that patient from doing.

Then we look for the cause.

Pain matters, but pain is often only part of the story. Our clinicians evaluate movement, joint function, strength, posture, biomechanics, neurologic findings, and the effects an injury or condition is having on everyday life. Our goal is to identify the mechanical and functional problems that can be addressed conservatively and build a treatment plan around those findings.

Listen. Understand. Improve.

That philosophy is at the center of InterState Medical Group.

Our clinic brings together chiropractic care, non-surgical spinal decompression, massage therapy, rehabilitation and exercise therapy, infrared therapy, PEMF, and other conservative treatment options. These services are not simply placed together because we have them available. They are selected and combined based on what the individual patient needs.

Some patients need relief. Some need rehabilitation. Some need more extensive corrective care. And some simply need education, reassurance, and a plan.

We believe patients should understand those choices and participate in deciding what level of care is right for them.

WE BELIEVE MOVEMENT MATTERS

One of the principles that guides our clinic is remarkably simple:

Movement is Our Medicine.

When joints stop moving properly, muscles become guarded, movement becomes painful, and people often begin avoiding the very activities that once defined their lives.

Pain can create fear.  Fear can reduce movement.  Reduced movement can further diminish function.  Our job is to help reverse that process.

We work to restore motion, improve strength and control, reduce unnecessary fear of movement, and help patients regain confidence in their bodies.

Because ultimately, the goal is bigger than pain relief.

It is getting back to work.

Getting back to the gym.

Playing with your children or grandchildren.

Walking without hesitation.

Sleeping comfortably.

Traveling.

Gardening.

Golfing.

Living independently.

Doing the things that make life feel normal again.

CONSERVATIVE CARE FIRST

We believe the human body has an extraordinary capacity to adapt and recover when given the right environment and appropriate care.

Whenever clinically appropriate, we believe in beginning with conservative, non-invasive treatment.

Natural therapies first.
Medication when necessary.
Surgery when truly indicated.

There is absolutely a place for medication and surgery in healthcare. But when a musculoskeletal condition can reasonably be managed conservatively, we believe patients deserve the opportunity to explore those options first.

That philosophy is particularly important in the treatment of disc injuries, back and neck pain, sciatica, joint conditions, athletic injuries, work injuries, and injuries following automobile accidents.

WE DO NOT WANT PATIENTS DEPENDENT ON US

Perhaps one of the most important principles at InterState Medical Group is this:

Independence over dependence.

Our success is not measured by how long we can keep someone coming through our doors.

It is measured by what that person can do when they walk back out of them.

Treatment may begin with hands-on care, but lasting improvement often requires something more: education, movement, strength, confidence, and the ability to manage your own health.

We want patients to understand their condition.

We want them to understand what they can do to help themselves.

We want them to become stronger and more capable.

And when they have reached their goals, we want them to know that they can move forward independently—and that we will still be here when they need us.

Never above you.
Never below you.
Always beside you.

THE INTERSTATE DIFFERENCE

We believe good healthcare begins with listening.

It continues with understanding.

And it succeeds when the patient becomes an active participant in their recovery.

That means explaining what we find.

Showing patients their options.

Establishing realistic goals.

Measuring progress.

Changing course when something is not working.

And never pressuring someone into care they do not understand or do not want.

Our responsibility is to educate and recommend.

The patient’s responsibility is to choose.

Together, we move forward.

Our Approach To Pain Relief is Hands-on

What Is the Treatment Approach of Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is built on a fundamentally different approach to musculoskeletal pain: look beyond the symptom and determine what is interfering with normal movement and function.

Pain is important—but pain is often the signal, not the entire problem. Rather than simply masking discomfort, chiropractors evaluate how the spine, joints, muscles, posture, movement patterns, and nervous system are functioning together. The goal is to identify the mechanical and functional factors contributing to a patient’s condition and address those factors whenever possible.

This approach is rooted in one of chiropractic’s oldest principles: help the body function better so it has the best possible opportunity to recover.

Chiropractic care emphasizes conservative, noninvasive treatment before more invasive options are considered. Depending on the patient and condition, care may incorporate chiropractic adjustments or spinal manipulation, mobilization, soft-tissue therapy, therapeutic exercise, rehabilitation, massage, posture and movement training, and other evidence-informed therapies designed to restore motion and improve function.

Modern research supports spinal manipulation as a reasonable conservative treatment option for many patients with musculoskeletal conditions, particularly low-back pain. Clinical studies have demonstrated improvements in pain and function for appropriately selected patients, while contemporary chiropractic care increasingly combines manual treatment with exercise, rehabilitation, education, and active patient participation.

Chiropractic care is commonly used by people recovering from back and neck pain, sports and work-related injuries, headaches associated with the neck, joint and muscle dysfunction, postural problems, and mobility limitations. It can also play a supportive role for some women experiencing pregnancy-related musculoskeletal discomfort as their posture, center of gravity, and biomechanics change.

Just as importantly, chiropractic encourages patients to participate in their recovery rather than become dependent upon passive care.

The objective is not simply to make pain disappear for a few hours. It is to help restore movement, rebuild function, increase confidence, and return people to the activities that matter to them.

Find the dysfunction.
Restore the motion.
Rebuild the function.
Encourage independence.

Because when movement improves, function can improve—and when function returns, people regain freedom.

Movement is Our Medicine.
Motion Wins.

Why Us?

Frequently Asked Questions

The team at InterState Medical Group begins with a thorough evaluation to understand the nature and severity of your whiplash injury. Your evaluation may include a review of how the injury occurred, your symptoms, medical history, X-rays, and a physical examination. Based on the findings, the clinicians develop an individualized treatment plan focused on supporting recovery, improving function, and addressing the specific musculoskeletal issues associated with your injury.

Your treatment plan may include:

  • Chiropractic care
  • X-rays
  • Therapeutic massage
  • Rehabilitation
  • Class IV laser therapy
  • Shock wave therapy
  • Electric Stimulation Therapy
  • Regenerative therapy
  • Decompression therapy, when appropriate

Chiropractors find the reason and source of pain and treat the root cause rather than simply medicating pain symptoms with potentially habit-forming drugs or other treatments that provide short term relief. Chiropractors take a whole-body approach by identifying and correcting the causes of the patient’s health ailments so the patient can heal naturally with non-invasive therapies such as chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, and other therapies that speed up the healing process. Chiropractic has been proven effective in helping auto accident injuries, athletes heal from sports injuries, treating work-related injuries, treating headaches, improving balance and posture, helping women feel more comfortable during pregnancy, and so much more.

Chiropractic adjustments are precise, controlled movements applied to joints—most commonly in the spine—to help restore normal motion, improve function, and reduce pain.

When a joint becomes restricted or is not moving properly, it can place additional stress on surrounding muscles, ligaments, and other tissues. A chiropractor evaluates these areas and uses a specific adjustment to improve joint mobility and help the body move more naturally.

During an adjustment, your chiropractor will position your body based on the area being treated and apply a carefully directed force to the joint. You may hear a “pop” or “crack,” which is simply gas being released from the joint and is not the sound of bones being put back into place.

Adjustments are customized to each patient based on their condition, age, mobility, health history, and treatment goals. Techniques can range from gentle, low-force methods to traditional manual adjustments.

The purpose of an adjustment is not simply to mask pain. It is to improve movement and function so the body can better tolerate everyday activity, recover from injury, and return to the things that matter most.

Restore Motion. Improve Function. Keep Moving.

I came to this clinic after a car accident, and from my very first visit, Dr. Michael helped me with my neck and back pain. I also saw Dr. Emilia and received a TPI treatment, which provided immediate relief. I started feeling much better within the first week.

I would like to thank both doctors for their professionalism, care, and excellent treatment. I also want to mention that the entire staff is very friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help.

I highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for quality care and effective treatment.

I was struggling with severe back pain that had taken away from work. They were able to get me in same day. The office and staff are phenomenal. The salt room was amazing. The doctor was kind, informative, and thorough. I left feeling so much better and was able to walk and sit comfortably immediately. The best chiropractor I've seen hands down.

I'd always been afraid to visit a chiropractor's office, but I'm so glad I did because I've felt so much better since my visit. Dr. Michael and Dr. Cohn have helped me feel so much better. I have less and less pain with each visit. I love getting regular adjustments, and even the TPI injections have helped me tremendously in managing my muscle pain. The massages are a really nice and relaxing bonus; the staff knows what they're doing and is always super friendly and helpful. A 10/10 experience!

Dr. Michael is absolutely amazing! He really knows his stuff. My husband wasted years of time and money on other chiropractors who did very little to relieve his pain. We were becoming concerned for his future and his ability to run his business. After just 2 visits he feels like new. Dr. Michael is truly a blessing from God!
